Nicholas is a long-term contributor to the Rust compiler and author of the Rust Performance Book. He previously worked at Mozilla, where he led multiple technical efforts to improve Firefox'
s performance and reliability and managed the Low-Level Tools team. He has also worked for Apple and National ICT Australia. He co-won a Most Influential PLDI Paper Award for the paper "
Valgrind: a Framework for Heavyweight Dynamic Binary Instrumentation"
which was based on work done during his PhD. He has particular interests in code performance, correctness, clarity, and has built several widely-used profiling tools. He currently works full-time on the Rust compiler for Futurewei Technologies.
