Nicholas is a long-term contributor to the Rust compiler and author of the Rust Performance Book. He previously worked at Mozilla, where he led multiple technical efforts to improve Firefox's performance and reliability and managed the Low-Level Tools team. He has also worked for Apple and National ICT Australia. He co-won a Most Influential PLDI Paper Award for the paper "Valgrind: a Framework for Heavyweight Dynamic Binary Instrumentation" which was based on work done during his PhD. He has particular interests in code performance, correctness, clarity, and has built several widely-used profiling tools. He currently works full-time on the Rust compiler for Futurewei Technologies.
